MDFA 3rd division play-offs: Indigo, Charotter Rukhi Samaj qualify for next round

The group stage of MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) 3rd division play-offs concluded on 25th May, 2016 at St. Xaviers Ground, Parel. After a nervy group phase, sixteen teams has been qualified for the next round which will commence from 26th May onwards.

Charotter Rukhi Samaj vs Freunds S.C

In a one sided affair in Group E, Hasmukh Baria’s side Charotter Rukhi Samaj inflicted a thumping 6-0 victory over Freunds S.C to end their group proceedings on a winning note.

Suraj Malwana, Rahul Solanki and Hitesh Purbhiya netted two goals each to complete a thumping victory. After this result, it was confirmed that Freunds S.C won’t make it into the next round as they had already lost 2-1 against Larsen & Toubro.

Indigo FC vs Vision Rescue

The newcomers of the 3rd division – Indigo FC showed a cracking display to romp a strong Vision Rescue side 2-0 in a group H match to qualify into the round of 16. Indigo has also qualified for the 2nd division which is quite an achievement for a new side.

Gavin Fernandes opened the scoring inside just 20 minutes before Rahul Deshmukh doubled their lead at the stroke of half time. Indigo’s defense was solid for throughout the match, giving Vision’s attackers absolutely no chance to make a comeback.

It was an outstanding performance by the boys in blue, who are playing their first season in MDFA. With this result, Indigo has topped their group as they had already defeated Poinsur Gymkhana 2-0 earlier, courtesy of Manish Koli and Sylvester Dmello’s strike.

Worli SC vs Godrej & Boyce

In an end to end match, Worli SC and Godrej & Boyce played out a 1-1 draw in their group F match at St. Xaviers Ground, Parel.

Pizan Kodia scored a stunning goal, all the way from half line to give Godrej & Boyce a vital lead. It was an extraordinary attempt from Pizan which completely bamboozled Worli’s custodian Amit Prabhu.

Worli SC hit back in the second half when Prathamesh Sawant headed in perfectly past Godrej & Boyce goalkeeper Prithpal Panesar to cancel out Pizan’s wonder goal.

Both the team had their chances in the dying stages of the game but couldn’t capitalized and had to satisfy with a draw.
