Maharastra U-19 Girls Inter-State to be held in Orissa

The Western Indian Football Association (WIFA), the governing body of football for Maharashtra, has always made great efforts to promote football and bring professionalism to the sport. This year they have scouted players to fill the gap in the Maharashtra team.

The Maharashtra U-19 girls football team are participating in the inter-state football tournament which will be held on July 1 in Orissa.

Last year the girls were knocked out in the quarter-final league stage. Maharashtra coach Durva Vahia said, “We have started training a couple of days before with a few more players to join us tomorrow, so we should be prepared in time for the tournament.”

After the recently concluded MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) Women’s League and State Inter-District Championship, the Maharashtra’s training camp seems to be optimistic ahead of the tournament.

Durva Vahia who had represented Bodyline FC and Mumbai in the Women’s League and State Inter-District respectively has a vast experience as a player which will be a great asset for the whole team.

Her presence itself in the team will boost the player’s morale. Alongside Durva, Nagpur’s Coach Annie Paul is also at the helm of Maharashtra’s team who guided Nagpur into the semis of State Inter-District tournament.

Both of them has the potential and ability to lead this strong and confident side in the upcoming tournament.

The team is in fine shape more than ever after a hectic summer and will be looking to break the jinx of not making it past the quarter-finals stage of the tournament.

It will be quite interesting to follow Maharashtra’s fairytale this time, with less than two weeks left. Only time will tell whether Maharashtra can lift their first U19 championship title.
