Kolhapur to face Mumbai in Inter-District Women’s Championship Semis

Kolhapur registered a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Gondia, of the LIC-Maharashtra State Inter-District Senior Women’s Football Championship -2016, organized by MDFA at Karnatak Sports Association ground on Thursday evening. This win also ensures Kolhapur’s place in the semi final where they will clash against the host Mumbai on Saturday at Cooperage Stadium.

Prithvi Gaikwad, Aishwarya Haidar and an own goal from Raveena Bombade in the 42nd minute proved to be decisive for Kolhapur.

This was Kolhapur’s second win of the Championship, finishing at the top of Group C with seven points in three games. Gondia finished second with six points and Jalgaon third with four points.

Kolhapur started off brightly and took a huge step on the 14th minute through Prithvi Gaikwad’s goal before Aishwarya Haidar doubled their lead in the 25th minute. Gondia pushed forward and had their chances but couldn’t were unable to find the net.

In the second half, an own goal from Raveena Bombade put the tie to bed as Kolhapur ran out as winners.

In the second match of Group C, Jalgaon thumped Amravati 8-0 to finish their campaign on a high note. Sharda Sapkale and Sushma Dhere scored two goals each, while Pooja Nemade, Monu Gulhe, Divya Patil and Rohini Sonawane all chipped in with a goal apiece.
