Khalid Jamil: “We are determined not to lose, but go all out for a win.”

After two goalless stalemates in their first two games in HERO I-league against Shillong Lajong and Kingfisher East Bengal, the host Mumbai FC will aim to register their first win of the season against Salgaocar FC at Cooperage Stadium, on Sunday evening.

In the corresponding fixture last season Mumbai FC had to suffer a 3-1 defeat at Cooperage Stadium and moreover, they have also registered only one win against the Goan side, who has found the better of Mumbai FC eight times in the last ten HERO I-league fixtures.

Mumbai FC’s head coach Khalid Jamil is hoping to get a win against Salgaocar FC after earning just two points out of six from their opening fixtures.

“I am not worried about the first two results, it is just the start of the season and we must need to deliver good performance and be positive about the upcoming fixtures. I am expecting a better result against Salgaocar,” Jamil told the media ahead of their match against Salgaocar FC.

“I had stated before the start of the league, that my first objective is to stay away from relegation zone and then push hard for wins and try to end in the top half of the table,” he further added.

Speaking about their previous match, head coach Khalid stated:”We could have won the last match, although getting a draw against East Bengal was a good result.”

Jamil also expressed that their opponents Salgaocar FC will be a tough team to beat and they will surely test their patience in order to earn their first points this season.

“Salgaocar is a good side, I have seen them play. It won’t be an easy match for us and we are not taking them lightly as they have played quite good in their last matches.” Jamil added.

Mumbai FC, who has created tons of chances in their previous games but have failed to convert those opportunities into goals needs to be improve before it starts costing them the game.

“The chances we are creating needs to be finished properly, that is the improvement we are further looking upon.” Khalid Jamil told the media.

The Mumbai gaffer also added that their midfielder Steven Dias won’t feature in the starting lineup as he is out injured with an ankle injury. Having missed both of Mumbai FC’s matches, new signing Ryuki Kozawa is most likely to start the game as the Japanese striker is cleared to play ahead of the clash.

“Steven (Dias) will not start tomorrow’s game due to ankle injury. Although he might not feature tomorrow but he will definitely available for the Bengaluru FC game.”

Jamil said that the priority of the team for tomorrow’s match is not to lose. “We are determined not to lose, but go all out for a win. We will see the match situation and play accordingly and if things don’t work out initially we will try out other options and ensure we don’t lose the game,” he further said before heading for a training session with the team.
