A hat-trick from Marcelinho and a brace from Gadze were enough for Delhi to batter a hapless FC Goa after Cordoza had put the visitors in front.

Marcelinho scored the third hat-trick of this season

A rampant second half display in which the Delhi hammered four goals in space of ten minutes killed off any Goa resistance as in an unlikely turn of event, the game saw Delhi concede first in the 31st minute before Marcelinho drew parity heading into break.

Goa fielded almost a new side with Zico ringing in as many as seven changes. The likes of Romeo, Jofre, Robin Singh, Mandar Rao, Gregory Arnolin all being benched. On the other end, Delhi fielded just two changes with Gadze and Milan both coming back to starting lineup.

As expected Delhi began the game dominating from the word go, Marcelinho and Gadze both troubling the Goa defence every now and then. In the 10th minute Marcelinho got clear of his marker on the right but instead of cutting it back for Gadze in the middle, the Brazilian went for glory only to hit the side-netting.

At the other end, Goa had their first pop at goal in the 20th minute, when Salil Tavora found himself in space before firing in a low shot that was deflected away for corner by a diving Soram Porei.

But ten minutes later, Delhi paid the price of underestimating Goan attack when Cesar did well to take the ball in to the box and dummy it against a diving Anas and Porei before firing in a low shot from a tight angle. Although Porei recovered well to block Cesar’s shot, the ball fell for Cordoza who made no mistake in slotting the ball in to the net.

Delhi responded strongly through a barrage of attacks and six minute later they were back on level terms. A smartly taken freekick by Malouda found Marcelinho who had began an early run in space on left as the Brazilian slotted past the Goan custodian.

Delhi had a chance to go ahead seconds before half time whistle but Gadze failed to take advantage from six yards with his shot on turn getting blocked by Goan defence.

Marcelinho is now the top scorer of the league with 8 goals

The second half started in a bizarre turn of events as it seemed like Goan defence were just switched off with the Delhi side smashing four goals in the space of ten minutes. It started with Marcelinho in the 48th minute, the Brazilian’s pile driver from around 30 yards out ricocheted off the crossbar and went in, to double the Delhi lead.

Three minutes later Marcelinho turned provider when he played on Gadze who struck past Kattimani at the near post to make it 3-1. In the 57th minute, Marcelinho completed a well deserved hat-trick when he shot past Kattimani to take his total goal tally to eight goals.

In the next minute, Goan defence went from bad to worse as Tebar fed Gadze this time, who went past Raju before slotting the ball past Kattimani to make his second and Delhi’s fifth of the night.

After that series of goal scoring spree, Delhi Dynamos were happy to sit back and see out the game. Zambrotta began replacing his star players as he wanted to avoid risking any injures ahead of the play-offs. While Goa failed to stitch anything valuable to come back and finally conceding the game.

Delhi Dynamos FC 5 (Marcelinho 38’, 48’, 56’, Gadze 51’, 58’) – 1 FC Goa (Cordoza 31’)
