Income Tax continue their winning-run with a 1-0 win over Kenkre under-19

Despite an improved performance in the second-half, Kenkre under-19s could not avoid back-to-back defeats in the Mumbai District Football Association Super Division as they lose-out to Income Tax, this time by a solitary goal scored by Mikhil Tanden on Sunday, 31st January 2016.

The first-half proceedings began brightly for  Kenkre under-19, who seemed determined to turnaround their misfortunes after falling-short in their last-outing against Millat F.C.

Early-on in the match, Kenkre under-19 circulated the ball with a fine combination of passes as they penetrated between the lines with quick-passing movements only to fail in the final-third area. After spending a short-time on the back-foot, when Income Tax looked to break into the lead from a couple of chances, Kenkre under-19 found their rhythm again – recording a handful of goalscoring runs in the process. Although, Kenkre under-19’s early dominance fast-faded as Income Tax steadily grew into the game and emerged as the better team in an attacking sense as the first-half progressed.

The wing-oriented play of Income Tax didn’t bloom as it took a swift through-ball from Madan Takalikar into the path of Mikhil Tandel to set the number 9 through in on a one-on-one opportunity against the Kenkre under-19 goalkeeper Adil Sameja, who having saved the initial effort could only see the rebound being put into the net by Mikhil Tandel in the 27th minute.

The first-half saw Kenkre under-19 fail to get past a block of Blue defenders, whereas Income Tax came agonizingly close to adding to their tally of one goal, first via Prathamesh Porwal and, then Kalpesh Rane dragged an even better chance wide of the left-hand post; both from corners.

The first-half ended with Kenkre under-19 clearly lacking players to hold the ball up-front as Income Tax produced a dominant performance in terms of scoring, creating and physicality, which largely benefited in having an upper-hand over the Kenkre ‘under-19’.

Both sides intended on scoring from the onset of second-half and, where Income Tax produced better chances, Kenkre under-19 were repeating the mistakes from the first-half – failing to add men inside the box to meet crosses and some below par finishes added to the disappointment.

With game needing more than Kenkre under-19 delivered, the Red Lizards upped their game in the closing 10 minutes and delivered one of their finest performances, which saw them dominate and hold Income Tax back, but a failure to create genuine goalscoring chances had the dominance go fruitless.

By the time, the referee blew the full-time whistle, Kenkre under-19 had made it difficult for themselves with a game in hand as their aspirations of qualifying for the next-round remains in shadow. For Income Tax, the story is a happy one!
