‘Go Green’ Cup – Day 1

Day 1 of the ‘Go Green’ Cup witnessed 21 matches in total. 7 played on the turf and 14 played on the two pitches adjacent to the turf. The turnout of the kids was massive. After the huge success of the Kenkre Champions League the enthusiasm for the ‘Go Green’ Cup was immense. With 4 hours of non-stop football action, we witnessed the hustle and bustle of the kids and their ever enthusiastic parents cheering for them from the side-lines.

The matches on the turf hosted the Under 8 category. With kids in the age group of 9 and below participating. The number of parents turnout for this category has always been immense and beyond the notion of disappointment. The very first match saw Don B beat St Stanislaus by 1-0. St Stanislaus have been the team to watch out in the KCL and Don Bosco B, was successful in causing an upset. On the other side, Don Bosco A defeated St Stanislaus B by 1-0. A similar kind of score-line yet very much deserved. FFA A defeated Scottish Studs by 4-0 whereas Don Bosco B continued their winning form beating Balmohan by 4-0. These above matches were the most anticipated ones and kept everyone on their toes.

The Pitches 1 and 2 hosted the Under 14 category of matches. With 14 matches played on both of them. In the opening match, Bosco Hurricanes defeated the Thunderbolts by 9-0. A staggering start to the ‘Go Green’ Cup. Bosco hurricanes were the highlight of the day as they managed to score 11 in their second game beating Soccer FC. A mammoth total of 20 goals in 2 games. That surely has to be a record.

The in form FFA beat Trailblazers by 5-2. Atlanta Blazers were instrumental in beating The Assassins by 6-0. Whereas, Red Devils beating the Terminators 3-0 were the highlighted matches of Day 1. Close to 60 goals were scored in the 14 matches played on Day 1 which is a big number in itself.

The Day 1 of the ‘Go Green’ Cup witnessed players all over the city participating from various schools. With 21 matches and close to 80 goals scored the first day was hugely popular among the parents. We had with us Mr Floyd Pinto, AIFF U18 team coach and a very close associate of the Kenkre Academy watch the players as the AIFF continues to scout and nurture talented players for the FIFA U17 World Cup next year.
