Delighted Derrick Pereira assures goals will come after Mumbai FC win

DSK Shivajians scripted history on Wednesday night as they scored their maiden win in the I-League thanks to a hard fought 1-0 win over Mumbai FC at the Balewadi Sports Complex Stadium. Douhou Pierre’s 20th minute winner was the first goal that DSK Shivajians had scored in the I-League and a stubborn defensive display meant they were rewarded with their first three points of the season.
Coach Derrick Pereira was obviously delighted with the ‘big’ win and hailed the combined effort of his team. “This is a very big win. I am delighted with the three points. I felt we fought really hard today. We have been showing a lot of discipline in all our matches so far and today we were rewarded for it,” expressed a delighted Derrick Pereira after the game.
But it was DSK’s defensive play that impressed the Coach the most as he hailed his midfield and defence for stifling an in-form Mumbai FC attack. “Our midfield played very well today. All the players played with great understanding. But I must say our defence had an outstanding game and they defended very well under pressure. Subrata made some big saves in the game and I feel it was very good team effort,” Pereira opined.
There weren’t many goal scoring opportunities once again for DSK Shivajians who have only managed one goal in five games in the competition. Pereira admitted his side remain a work in progress and a bit more work on the training ground will see goals come for his side. “There is a lot to be worked on for us still. We want to see more goals and we are working on it on the training pitch. I think the goals will soon come for us if we keep on working hard and I hope it happens soon,” suggested the DSK Shivajians Coach.
Subrata Pal, who had a superb game in goal had a bit of an injury scare at the end of the game, nut Coach Pereira insisted his custodian will be able to make it in time for their next outing against his former club Salgaocar. “Subrata had a problem in his right leg and that hurt while taking the goal kicks. We will have to assess him and see how the injury is, ut I feel he will be fit for the next match,” the former Salgaocar Coach told the media.
DSK Shivajians take on Salgaocar in a crucial game on Valentines Day and there will be no love lost between the two sides that are deperately seeking to pull away from the bottom of the table.
