Day 2 Round-up: Vakola Football League

The third edition of the Vakola Football League commenced last-Sunday as twelve teams from two pools (A and B) tussled on the opening-day for a positive start to their respective campaigns. The second-day of the Vakola Football League played on 24th January 2016 at St. Anthony’s ground, Vakola saw a total of five wins and one draw compared to one win and five draws on the opening-day of the tournament; drawing a statement as to how the tournament is beginning to take shape as the teams have started to settle-in.
Two teams (Soccer Raiders B from pool A and Vakola United B from pool B) didn’t feature on the second-day as Victorious Secret (pool A) and Galacticos (pool B) – playing their opening matches in the tournament – exchanged places. The two did not embark-on their journeys as they would fancied; while, Galacticos stumbled in the last course-of-action of the game to slip-in an equalizer from Manikantha Gowda of Holy Cross Soccer Club after Pranay Kuckian gave his side a second-half lead, Victorious Secret, meanwhile, lost their opening match to Vakola United A, who recorded their first win in the competition – drawing 0-0 on the opening day – Ralston Miranda’s strike gave his side maximum points, this time. The story for Holy Cross Soccer Club was similar, who having narrowly won on the opening-day had to dig deep to get a draw against Galacticos on day 2.
Two games saw 6 goals: Zigzag Boys 3-0 Stunning Strikers (Pool A) and Gamekings 0-3 D-Boys (Pool B). Zigzag Boys, who started-off with a goalless draw vs. Vakola United A, won with a fine performance over-all as goals from Avinash Bangera and a brace from Eustace Saldanha sealed maximum points. On the other-hand, D-Boys also got to winning-ways after playing-out in a goalless draw against Vakola United B on the previous weekend.
Other results from the weekend’s action:
Outpost United (Chandu More, Pravin N.) 2-0 Football Club Nirvana – Pool B
Rising Stars (Rohan Shinde) 1-0 Soccer Raiders – Pool A
From a total of 14 teams playing in the competition neither side was able to better its performances and end-results; although, a couple of sides registered comprehensive wins, but it is to be seen in the upcoming weeks if they can improve on their earlier results on a consistent basis as the tournament remains wide-open.
The Vakola Football League will resume tomorrow (26/01/2016) at St. Anthony’s ground from 8:00 a.m. onwards till 2:00 p.m. with each side playing two games each on the third-day.
