Clinical Father Agnel overcome the State Bank of India hurdle

Father Agnel ‘s clinical performance took them past the State Bank of India side 2-0 in the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) Super Division match held on Friday evening at the St Xavier’s ground, Parel.

A clinical first half performance from Fr.Agnel turned out to be the recipe for their win as they managed to score two goals to seal the game eventually. Both teams kept possession for short intervals as they tried to dictate play through the centre of the field. Eventually both defences were tight as they managed to successfully implement the offside trap.

Fr Agnel although were able to keep their shape compact and wait for a mistake from the opposition. The breakthrough came in the the 19th minute when an attack down the left turned out to be fruitful.  Number 13 Aditya Dhumal netted past the SBI keeper as he was quick to get onto a ball played behind the defense before cutting in from the left and scoring.

SBI were quick to come of their block and they almost equalised when number 29 Vikas Gupta took a less powerful shot straight at the keeper. Another attack from the wings which led to no avail. Fr Agnel made the most of this as number 11 Abhishek Raja managed to pressurize the SBI centre back only to find himself through on goal doubling their lead. He could have made it 3-0 just before half time when a long ball over the top was nicked past an outward rushing keeper whose defender managed to cover up not giving any space to finish.

At half time Fr Agnel had a two goal cushion where the match looked well and truly done. In the second half Fr Agnel remained astute in defense not allowing  SBI to complete the passes as they sat back on the counter. Eventually as the game progressed the two goal lead proved too much for State Bank of India to overcome

It was an all round performance from Fr Agnel who managed to score the chances they got adding to that was the defending which was very good. No silly business was carried throughout the match from both the teams. Fr Agnel coach lauded his sides performance as they look to build on this win in the next match.
