Big escalation for MDFA super division from Parel to Mumbai Football Arena

The MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) Super Division League commenced at the Mumbai Football Arena, Shahaji Raje Bhosale Kreeda Sankul-BKLP (Andheri Sports Complex) on Thursday. Companeroes SC and Kenkre FC Under-19 were engaged in a 1-1 draw. It is a great initiative by MDFA, all competitive matches will be played here at Mumbai Football Arena also called as Home of ISL club Mumbai City FC.

Earlier, MDFA Ch airman, Aditya Thackeray along with veteran cricket writer and columnist Ayaz Menon, Bollywood actor and television presenter Gaurav Kapur, and the MDFA Executive Committee members inaugurated the tournament.

Addressing media persons later, Thackeray said “the Andheri ground would initially host the Super Division and Elite Division matches. Elite games would also be organized at Cooperage depending on the availability of the ground. The lower division play-off games will also be conducted at this ground.”

“Besides holding the MDFA matches and the Mumbai City FC ISL matches, we would also like that the MSSA Inter-Schools matches, especially the semi-final and final matches be played on this ground,” he further added.

“This ground would also host some more international friendly games and the Indian team would also have their camps on this ground. Coach Stephen Constantine was happy with the condition of the ground and is keen to have the National camp here,” Thackeray stated.

Thackeray mentioned that the MDFA is in the process of developing a ground at the Bandra. “A ground with artificial turf is being prepared near Rang Sharda in Bandra (West). The ground is expected to be complete by the first week of December.  That way we will be able to complete our leagues smoothly and on time.”

Thackeray also pointed out that the MDFA has approached the Maharashtra government for land to construct a football ground. “I have requested the State government to allot a plot of land in the eastern suburbs, maybe at BKC to build a non commercial football ground. We are also looking out for some more plots for football ground,” he mentioned.
