Bhagyashree shines as Mumbai United wins women’s crown

Mumbai:  Junior India star Bhagyashree Dalvi played a stellar role, scoring both the goals as Mumbai United emerged champions defeating Companeroes Sport Club by a 2-0 margin in the women’s final of the 23rd Bandra Gymkhana Open Rink Football Tournament and played under floodlights at the Demonte Park Recreational Ground, Bandra.

The summit clash, witnessed a tense battle for supremacy as both the teams played good, attractive attacking football. However, Mumbai United boasting of another former Junior India player Abeer Arsiwalla, enjoyed a slight edge over the proceedings.

Both Bhagyashree and Abeer combined nicely to put pressure on the Companeroes defence. Midway through the first session, Mumbai United found success when form a well-worked move Bhagyashree struck the opening goal, to give her side a slender 1-0 half-time advantage. Mumbai United continued to hold sway in the second session and Bhagyashree with another super strike doubled the lead to seal United’s triumph.

The young Bhagyashree for her brilliant showing throughout the tournament was later declared ‘Player of the Tournment’.
