Yao Bernard brace helps Kenkre FC derail Western Railways

Kenkre FC registered back to back wins in the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) as a Yao Bernard brace powered them past Western Railways on Monday afternoon in a game held at Cooperage.

There was little to chose between Kenkre and Western Railways in the opening half hour as the two sides cancelled each other out in midfield.

However, it was Kenkre forward Yao Bernard’s brilliance which helped them break the deadlock in the 34th minute and take a crucial lead in the game.

Western Railways who were stunned by the goal made a good response to going down and Kenistan C was unfortunate not to have put them back on level terms before the break when his effort from just inside the penalty area rattled the crossbar.

Kenkre held the vital advantage at the break in an extremely tight encounter.

But things got better for Kenkre within two minutes of the restart when striker Yao Bernard once again showed his class in front of goal as his marauding run at the heart of the Western Railways defence left them reeling before the Ivorian kept his cool to finish past the goalkeeper.

Western Railways battled hard to get back into the game, but Kenkre nullified Western Railways in midfield. As the clock ticked, things became desperate for Western Railways, but they couldn’t find a way past a stern Kenkre defence in the second half until the 88th minute when substitute Kenistan C gave Western Railways hope with a goal which halved the deficit.

There was however little time for Western Railways to snatch a point as Kenkre shored up the defence to see off the game.

It was a second successive 2-1 win for Kenkre as they warmed up for the 2nd Division League in winning fashion.
