Valiant PIFA Colaba spoil LoneStar Kashmir party

PIFA Colaba FC earned a valuable point thanks to a late equaliser from Junaid Mohammed in a 2-2 draw against LoneStar Kashmir FC at the Synthetic Football Turf Stadium in Srinagar on Sunday afternoon.

It was an historic ocassion for football in Kashmir as national level club football made its entry into the valley for the first time ever.

However it was the visitors from Mumbai who drew first blood in a tight contest as PIFA’s Irfan Khan fired them into the lead in the 33rd minute to dampen the mood in the stands.

The visitors hung on till half time to go into the break with their noses in front.

PIFA Colaba endured a difficult second half as the home side pressed for an equalizer and put the men in orange under a lot of pressure. But Abdul Siddhique’s men showed great spirit and thwarted the relentless hosts.

However, the Kashmir side’s prayers were answered as they equalized in the 59th minute, through Faruq Chaudhary. The Kashmir side upped the ante after getting on even terms as PIFA were struggling to cope with the growing LoneStar Kashmir attacks.

Eventually in the 89th minute, Faruq Chaudhary popped up again to put Kashmir in front and spark celebrations in the stands.

But the celebrations were cut short as PIFA Colaba went to the other end and struck an equalizer in the second minute of stoppage time to nick a last gasp point from Kashmir.

The late PIFA Colaba goal spoilt the LoneStar Kashmir party by denying the home side all three points in the first ever competitive club game in the state.
