Twin Western Railways comebacks rock Union Bank of India

Western Railways twice came from behind to stun Union Bank of India as they won a topsy-turvy Elite Division clash of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) 5-3 at Cooperage in an early morning kick on 1st April 2015.

Union Bank of India came into this game in confident mood after dispatching PIFA Colaba 2-0 in their last game while, Western Railways were shocked by KSA in their previous outing.

Union Bank putting up a gutsy performance wrestled control initially and rocked the Western citadel when energetic striker Titus Uttankar struck the opening goal in the very third minute of the match. Uttankar, the livewire in the Union Bank attack added the second 14 minutes later to give his team a 2-0 lead.

Western Railway gradually and confidently bounced back to turn the tables on their rivals. Seasoned striker Reuben D’Souza led Western’s fight back by scoring their first goal in the 33rd minute before midfielder Linekar Machado netted the second in the 50th to restore parity for the railwaymen.

Union Bank regained the lead when Pratik Koli hit the target in the 65th minute. However, two minutes later, their lead was once again cancelled out with Charanjit firing in the first of his two goals.

Later Western scored twice in the final minutes through Ravikant Naidu (88th minute) and Charanjit in stoppage time to complete a deserving 5-3 victory.

The game is a candidate for the game of the season rivalling Kenkre’s 6-4 success over yesterday’s victors Western Railways and Air India’s late 5-2 win over KSA early on in the season.
