The Colaba Super League opens in grand style

Colaba Super League was inaugurated in stellar fashion at the Back Gardens Football Ground in Colaba, a ground which will play host to this festival of football in Mumbai’s footballing hub.

It seemed like the good old days of football had made its way back to Colaba as the ceremony was greeted with great enthusiasm by the Colabaites who gathered in large numbers in anticipation of a grand event.

And they were not disappointed as various dignitaries like Raj Purohit, the BJP MLA from Colaba made his presence along with corporator Sushma Salunke. Overlooking political rivalries, Congress’ Vinod Shekhar who was an ex-corporator too graced the event with his presence.

Anjali Shah who represents PIFA Colaba, the biggest club in Colaba displayed the club’s support for the CSL and hoped it helped the sport flourish in the South Mumbai suburb.

Its not often that football competitions in India have so much swagger that goes with it. All the eight franchises were paraded before the audiences as the tone was set for the months to come.

Henry Menezes, the WIFA CEO had words of encouragement for CSL and as one of the finest ambassadors for the sport in the city he highlighted the importance of such competitions in the growth of football in the country.

“The CSL is a great initiative for football. I would like to congratulate all the team owners for making this even possible”.

Krishna Pawle, the President of the CSL was delighted to finally see his dream come into reality, but that has just given him a chance to dream bigger. “I am happy to see CSL finally ready to start. We want to grow football and use it to help the community. We have strived hard for this and will continue to do so. Now we have a new dream, a dream of seeing a CSL player play for India one day”.

Krishna Pawle perfectly set up the atmosphere for the enthralling seven weeks of football. But the best was in store for the last. The Colaba Super League Anthem buzzed around the Back Garden Ground and left everyone mesmerised.

It is nicely set up for football to take over from here and write a new chapter in the already illustrious football history of Colaba.
