The Cathedral & John Connon win the the MSSA U-16 Girls 1st Division title

The Cathedral and John Connon High School, Fort won the MSSA U-16 Girls 1st Division title after recording a narrow 1-0 win over Dhirubhai Ambani International School, BKC in the U-16 1st Division Final held at Cooperage on Wednesday, 23rd September 2015.
A solitary strike from Devangi Maheshwari proved to be enough for the south Mumbai side to claim the title after a hard fought contest. Dhirubhai Ambani International HS had their moments in the game, but unfortunately the Ambani girls weren’t clinical enough to get the equalizer.
Cathedral and John Connon girls defended bravely and held their nerves in the end to taste the ultimate glory.
Bombay Scottish HS, Mahim claimed the 3rd place in the U-16 1st Division after a 2-0 win over St. Anne’s High School, Fort thanks to a double from Sarah Arora which lifted Bombay Scottish to grab the consolation and cap off another good season for their girls.
In the U-16 Girls 2nd Division, Mary Immaculate High School emerged Champions after star forward Karen Pais netted a sensational brace to sink J.B. Petit High School for girls 2-0 in Final played at Cooperage.
Mary Immaculate have been true to their name right from the start of the tournament and Karen Pais has made the headlines for her goal scoring exploits time and time again during the season. J.B. Petit were tough opponents in the final but Mary Immaculate had just too much for them in the end.
Jamnabai Narsee (IGCSE), Juhu bagged the third place after a thrilling 2-1 win over Canossa High School, Mahim in the 3rd place play-off. Ananya Tata and Deveshi Kumar netted for the Juhu outfit as Reeva Mascerenhas’ fine strike for Canossa HS went in vain.
The level of girls football was certainly higher this season than the previous ones and its a great sign for women’s football in India as the future looks bright.
