St Xavier’s College, Fort clashed with Siddharth College in the U-19 DSO Semi-final held on 2nd September in the R.C.F colony’s Javahar ground.
Siddharth College’s team gave a tough time to St Xavier’s team as they firmly dominated the first half of the game. However, the game went through a challenging phase as Siddharth’s team lost their team’s proper coordination to the sudden and fierce come back of Xavier’s during the second half.
After facing a strong opposition from the both the teams, the match finally went into penalties as both St Xavier’s and Siddharth College’s team failed to strike any goals by the end of the regulation time.
For the Xavier’s squad, Yelstyn D’Souza, Christopher Fernandes, Klien Pinto, Mohit Pawani scored. While Joshua d’souza, Sanath Valadare, Alister Pereira missed the chance to score. Sidharth’s Goalie; Nikhil Dhanur’s lovely and timely save against Alister Pereira was worth an applause.
In the penalty strokes from Siddharth’s team, Richesh Patil, Sahil More, Siddhu Pawar scored while Akash Jadhav, Rohan Padhare, Chandan Meher and Nikhil Dhanur’s strike which went compeletly off the target were missed, the last miss by Alkesh Koli sprouted spirits amongst the Xavier’s team as it confirmed their win and determined their position for finals against Jai Hindi.
As Jai Hind’s win was witnessed by Xavier’s, reportedly they are expecting an even more challenging game as opposed to the struggle with Siddharth College’s team.
In the first Semi-Finals were held Jai Hind College edged out arch rivals K.C. College on penalties to grab the bragging rights in the South Mumbai derby. The win for Jai Hind mean they have set up another derby clash with St. Xavier’s College.
A highly intriguing game awaits us as the U-19 DSO Championship is just a step away for these two south Mumbai giants.
