Shree Ram Nagar B.M.M. earn a thrilling shootout win over Navnirman to progress

Shri Ram Nagar Bal Mitra Mandal progressed to the next round of the MDFA 3rd Division Qualifiers after a thrilling 5-3 win over Navnirman FC on penalties in a game held at the St.Xavier’s Ground in Parel on Thursday, 16th July.
The game was quite action packed and fairly evenly matched as both teams had decent openings to score the first goal.
In the 5th minute Navanirman failed to score when its central player shot towards the goal. His shot was well shielded by the goalkeeper.
Shri Ram Nagar’s Jay Nayak got a good pass from Asutosh Gunjal from the half line in the 13th minute. Jay Nayak tapped in the ball and tried shooting it towards the goal but his shot could not make way towards he goal.
3 minutes later Navanirman’s left winger player shot from a close range towards the goal but his shot went wide away from goal.
No goal was scored in the first half of the game.
The second half though was very lively as both teams tried to steal the game away from each other.
Navanirman grabbed the lead in 22nd minute when Nikhil shot from long range. His shot went flying into the net and send the Navnirman team in delirium.
3 minutes later Shri Ram Nagar equalized after Asutosh grabbed the ball from opponent player and ran towards the goal. The goalkeeper came forward to collect the ball even though there were players to defend it. Asutosh quickly grabbed the chance and shot on target and pull Shree ram Nagar level.
In the 31st minute Navanirman missed a chance from a free kick as Nikhil made efforts to shoot on target but his shot hit the cross bar and rebounded.
Shri Ram Nagar had many chances to score but they failed to turn them into a goal. The men from Mulund lacked composure at crucial junctures, sending the tie into the dreaded penalty shootout.
With the full time whistle the game ended with 1-1 draw and both the teams were ready for the penalty shootout.
But Shree Ram B.M.M held their nerves in the shootout and thanks to some heroic goalkeeping from the goalkeeper, won the shootout 5-3.
It was heartbreaking for Navnirman who lost out despite taking the lead in the game.
