S.B.I. come-out 2-0 winners against G.M. Police

On 18th of November ’15 Wednesday, State Bank of India (S.B.I.) played host to Greater Mumbai Police (G.M.P.) in Mumbai District Football Association Super division league, Group C match at St. Xaver’s Ground, Parel, Mumbai.

The match ended in the favour of State Bank of India with the score-line at 2-0. Aniket Shiggan on the 29th minute mark opened the scoring for S.B.I. and number 24 Pritviraj Shetty wrapped-up the win for his side on 49 minutes.
The opening chance of the match fell to State Bank of India on 7 minutes, when an attempted shot on goal by Pritviraj Shetty was blocked, the ball landed o Royston Vaz’s feet, who dragged his shot off-target.

Minutes later, G.M. Police’s number 11 Rajaram Wongh’s attempted free-kick moved in the air and dipped through its way to Sumeet Salian in goal for S.B.I, but the S.B.I. goalkeeper recorded a good stop. Another chance fell to G.M. police’s Sagar Rathod, but he dragged his header off-target. This was the best chance for Greater Mumbai Police in the first-half and their best attacking spell, too.

As the first-half progressed into the final stages, pressure mounted on the G.M. Police, this time as S.B.I. pressurized their backline with a wave of attacks leading to half and quarter chances. First, on 26 minutes, Roshan Shettty shot his volley off the right-hand post, later on the 29th minute mark Aniket Shiggan scored the opener – in some fashion – a left-footed shot from outside the box – giving the goalkeeper no chance – after dribbling past 3 G.M. Police players laterally.

Chances were created by both sides as the first-half reached its end as the game was now more open with many tired legs on the field. As the second-half began, both sides started-off from where they left the first-half: last-moment defensive clearances, lack of control in midfield, hopeful passes down the flank and up-front with now real outcome.
The match and S.B.I. recorded its 2nd goal, when a goalkeeping error from Gajanan Sulebhavikar meant Pritiviraj Shetty could guide the ball (with a looping header) over the goalkeeper, who had come out to gather the ball.

The win for State Bank of India was sealed with the score-line at 2-0, but G.M. Police didn’t lose hope and created a good quality of chances to bring the game in their control. Number 44 Paneer Selvam of G.M. Police attempted an overhead kick off-target in the proceedings.

The match ended with S.B.I. leading the attack in the game, which is a testimony to the full-time score-line of S.B.I. 2-0 G.M. Police. Both sides gave their utmost efforts, but the result went in the favour of side which created as-well-as converted their chances with equal sincerity and conviction.
