Round-up of M.S.S.A under-15 tournament Day 1
In the 2 p.m. kick-off, in the second division, R.N. Podar School (C.B.S.E.) played against G.D. SomanI Memorial, and narrowly clinched a 1-0 goal win in their opening fixture; starting the campaign on a positive-note. The only goal-scorer of the game was R.N. Podar School (C.B.S.E.)’s number 9 Arsh Shaikh midway through the first-half. All together the game didn’t offer neither in terms of goals scored nor chances created.
In the first division match between Catherdral and John Cannon School and St. Mary’s School (I.C.S.E.) ‘A’ ended 4-1 in favor of Catherdral and John Cannon School. The hammering was a fine display, and the best team performance on the day. No.5 Abhibhav Dujodwalla opened the scoring in the 9th minute of play, no.15 Mathur Kaustubh scored twice in two minutes (18’ & 19’) to give his side a 3-0 lead in the first-half. In the second-half, no.14 Karl Maukna cancelled a goal back in the 32nd minute only to concede another goal a minute later from no.12 Arnav Gaurantala.
The second division match was between St. Mary’s School (I.C.S.E.) ‘B’ and Sacred Heart (Worli). The match finished 3-0 in St. Mary’s School (I.C.S.E.) ‘B’’s favor with no.3 Sparsh Panchigar opened the scoring with Dev Kapoor doubled the lead on the 35th minute mark. No.12 Rakshit wrapped-up the victory in the 44th minute.
The goalless draw between St. Stanislaus and Bombay International School was somewhat underwhelming not only in terms of the ‘goalless’ draw, but also in terms of the quality and enthusiasm on field.
The overall display of football was pleasing to the eye with young children sticking 5-6 passes together and putting quality balls in the box. The first-day of the M.S.S.A. under-15 tournament started on an optimistic note with an exciting line of fixtures ahead.
