Resolute Union Bank of India see off gutsy KSA

Union Bank of India (UBI) resisted a second half onslaught from Karnataka Sporting Association (KSA) to register a hard fought 2-1 win in the Elite Division of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) at Cooperage on Friday, 18th September 2015.

The corresponding fixture last season had plenty of drama in it as a late equalizer from KSA earned them a point in a very tight affair which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The clash took off from where it left last season, as both teams matched each other toe to toe in the opening quarter of an hour. But soon UBI began to assert themselves on the game and put KSA under pressure.

But very much against the run of play, KSA took the lead through new striking recruit Michael Idewele in the 22nd minute. It was a fine finish from the former G.M. Sports striker who made a dream start to his KSA career.

UBI who were on the front foot prior to going behind were not detered by the setback and rallied back into the game just five minutes later through a well taken goal from Titus Uttankar.

The goal put the winds back in UBI’s sails as they turned the deficit around to hit the front on 37th minute with a goal from Shravan Shetty.

The explosive first half drew to a close with UBI having their noses in front.

KSA looked much more inspiring in the second half which they started well and immediately put UBI on the back foot.

But UBi defended resolutely to deny waves after waves of KSA attacks in the end to kickstart their campaign with a hard fought victory.

KSA had the chances to snatch a point from the game, but failed to grab the opportunities when it came their way in the second half, allowing a highly solid UBI side to run away with the three points.
