RCF Colony Boys edge United Brothers in a shootout thriller

RCF Colony Boys qualified for the Quarter Finals of the 3rd Division of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) after defeating United Brothers 5-4 in a penalty shootout in sudden death with the regulation fifty minutes of play ending with a 0-0 scoreline at the St. Xavier’s Ground in Parel on Wednesday, 27th May 2015.

The victory via the penalty spot meant that RCF Colony Boys got promoted to the second division at the expense of United Brothers who were agonizingly close to being promoted.

Both sides had plenty of chances to win the game before the dreaded penalties, but neither team managed to strike that decisive goal.

In the shootout, Darpan Ramgaokar, Keshav Sharma, Ganesh Chaudhari, Sumeet Chavan and Pratik Dabak scored for RCF Colony Boys, while Mrunal Gaikwad and tejinder Singh missed their spot kicks.

For United Bothers, Christopher Marwan, John Purification, Aaron Fernandes and Edilbert Martis dispatched their respective penalties but misses from Charles Luis and Denzil Colaco spelled the end of their journey.

It was heartbreaking for United brothers to lose in that manner but their performance throughout the season meant they bowed out with their heads held high.

Meanwhile, it was celebration for the RCF Colony Boys who sealed the promotion to the second division as they lived another day in the fight for the 3rd Division crown.
