North East United rope in former Venezuela coach Cesar Farias

Indian Super League club, North East United have appointed former Venezuela Coach Cesar Farias as their Head Coach for the second season of the Hero Indian Super League.

Farias guided Venezuela to their first ever Copa America semi-finals in 2011 during his six years spell with the Venezuelan national team. During the course of tournament, Farias’ Venezuela pulled off several surprises including goalless draw against the then defending Champions Brazil and victories over Ecuador and Chile.

Farias was in charge when the Venezuelan team toured India to face a Lionel Messi led Argentina and was amazed to see the passion for the game among Indian fans. “I have experienced the passion that the Indians possess for the game first hand. I have a clear goal- The development of NEUFC and Indian Football”, the 42 year old said.

Announcing the appointment, NEUFC owner John Abraham said: “I am thrilled… It’s all about winning this season and I’m confident that Cesar’s leadership will get us there.”

“He is a unifier and that is important when we have a squad that comes from different cultures and geographic regions. Most importantly, he is young, passionate, has a clear vision for the club,” the Bollywood star said.

The former Venezuela coach will replace New Zealander Ricki Herbert in the NEUFC hot seat .
