Mumbai FC trounce DSK Shivajians in an eight goal thriller

Mumbai FC ran out 5-3 winners over DSK Shivajians in a thrilling U-15 Youth League encounter at Cooperage on Sunday, 27th December 2015. Clivert Demers netted a brace for the Mumbaikars as they eventually grabbed a roller coaster of an affair in Mumbai.

Mumbai FC were without their top scorer Kamran Ansari who suffered an ankle injury while playing for the WIFA XI against India U-17 side on Monday.

But Jeddy Almeida’s boys had little problems in front of goal as it took them just two minutes to open the scoring when Kartik Bele pounced on a rebound following a superb save from DSK Shivajians goalkeeper Shrihari Jadhav and dispatched it into the goal.

Mumbai who had their tails up after an early goal, doubled their lead in the 10th minute, when Saurabh Meher, who is a part of the India U-17 squad rounded off the goalkeeper to squeeze his shot in after being fed by an exquisite outfootted pass from midfield which had just about the perfect weight to land at the feet of Meher who had no problems in putting Mumbai FC 2-0 up.

But just when it seemed Mumbai FC would rack up a cricket score, Nikhil Prabhu’s weak back pass allowed the DSK Shivajians striker Piyush Joshi to intercept and score past the Mumbai FC goalkeeper Manan Bhawaskar to make it 2-1 in the 20th minute.

However, Mumbai FC restored their two goal lead just three minutes later when Clivert Demers scored a truly spectacular goal. Demers latched onto a lofted pass and brilliantly swivelled to put his marker on the wrong side before unleashing a vicious half volley on target which sailed into the top corner.

DSK’s Piyush Joshi then changed the complexion of the game when he once again pounced on some loose defending from Nikhil Prabhu to score DSK’s second goal on the stroke of half time and take his team into the break trailing by just the odd goal.

DSK Shivajians stunned the home crowd just seven minutes into the second half when Piyush Joshi once again displayed his goal scoring instincts as he completed a superb hat-trick and draw DSK Shivajians level at 3-3.

Mumbai who were shell-shocked by DSK’s comeback stepped up the urgency and tried to regain the lead, but DSK were determined to hold on for a point and frustrated the hosts.

However Mumbai’s patience eventually paid off in the 76th minute, when Clivert Demers’ clever through ball for Siddharth Sail saw the latter find the back of the net and release the pressure among the Mumbai FC faithful.

It was a bitter blow for DSK Shivajians after all their efforts to eake out a point went in vain and the shoulders began to drop for the DSK players.

Mumbai FC took advantage and added a fifth goal in the 87th minute when Clivert Demers who was a constant menace for the DSK Shivajians defence curled in a beautiful finish to seal the win for Mumbai FC who led 5-3 with three minutes to play.

The win kept Mumbai FC level on points with Pune FC at the top of the Maharashtra Zone table of the U-15 Youth League.
