Millat Cup 2015 – Day 1 Round up

The winter edition of Millat Cup kicked off in Andheri on Saturday noon, where teams from all over Mumbai are fancying their chances to lift the renowned Title in a knockout tournament.

Over 32 teams will be fighting for the prestigious trophy where they had to battle on hard concrete surface in a 5-A side match.

The Tournament opener was played between Kalina Trashers and Stallions. The former mercilessly decimated the latter 5-0 in order to progress in the next round.

The scoreline surprised majority of the spectators as they didn’t expected to be a one sided affair.

The second match saw Kurla’s Holy Cross locking horns against a strong Ayesha Boys side. Holy Cross’s goalkeeper Sinclair proved to be the hero as made some terrific saves in the game, and further saved a vital penalty in the tie-breaker to send Holy Cross into the next round.

Sinclair was awarded with the best goalkeeper award last month in the Holy Cross 6-A Football Tournament. It won’t be surprising if he replicate this feat.

The spectators had to witness another penalty shootout in the very next match when Kalina Rangers and Park View had to be separated through penalties.

Two second-half goals from Park View’s Dawood and Tanzeer put them in commanding position but Kalina Rangers scored in the last minute to take the match into penalties.

Park View held their nerves to edged past Kalina Rangers 4-3.

In the other games, Ben Johnson, Parle and Gunners comprehensively won their matches against Mafatlal, Malvani Boys and Manish Nagar to book their place in the last 16 of the Millat Cup 2015.

Radicals made an impressive comeback against United Brothers when they turned around the match 2-1 after going down 1-0 earlier in the match.

Whereas, Blunders found the better of Daniels FC after winning the match 3-2 in penalties to book their berth in next round.

Mean Machine and Air India ‘Red’ produced the best match of the day. In a highly intense game, the local team Mean Machine showed a determined approach to sink the mighty and strong Air India ‘Red’ 2-0 to make it into the last 16.

Joining Mean Machine in the last 16 later was Catalans, A-United and the junior team of Millat FC who battered Safa Boys 2-0 in the last match of the day.

With more exciting and thrilling game coming up, the rest of the Tournament will be commenced today at the same venue.
