Maharashtra ride on a Irshad Mohammed brace to make the Semi Finals of the 35th National Games

Maharashtra maintained their good form to score a 2-1 win over Tamil Nadu 2-1 in a football match of the 35th National Games 2015, Kerala on Thursday. Trailing 0-1 Maharashtra produced a superb fight back and once again with striker Irshad Mohammed T.V., who had scored two goals in the previous game, struck twice to help his team clinch the win and qualify for the semi-finals.

Maharashtra coach Godfred Pereira was pleased with the outcome of the match and the team’s progress to the semi-final. “The entire team played well and even after conceding a soft goal, they showed solid fighting spirit to come back and win the match. Irshad once again exhibited good finishing ability to score both the goals,” Godfred said.

Maharashtra are expected to take on either Punjab or Mizoram in the next round but the Maharashtra coach was not concerned. “It’s not a bother who we play next. The boys are playing well and I am confident they will continue to do well to win the next match as well. So it’s not important who we meet in the semis,” the coach said confidently.

After losing the opening group match against hosts Kerala 1-2, Maharashtra defeated Goa 5-3 in the next game.
