KSA ride on Patrick Mascerenhas’ brace to floor RCF

Karnataka Sporting Association (KSA) romped to a 4-1 win over Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF) in an Elite Division game of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) thanks to a brace from Patrick Mascerenhas on Saturday afternoon.

KSA came out of the blocks quickly and pushed RCF back into their own half early on and only needed 11 minutes to break them down when Michael Idewele struck the opening goal. The goal gave KSA further impetus as they doubled their lead in the 25th minute when Patrick Mascerenhas scored a delightful goal.

RCF however managed to stem the flow of KSA attacks who too were content with keeping the ball and not letting RCF any way back into the game before the interval. KSA held their 2-0 lead at half time and were firmly into the driving seat going into the second half.

However things changed early on in the second half when RCF’s Kuldeep M’s trickery saw him dart into the box to fire his shot on goal which was kept out by KSA’s Kishen Sulegai, but unfortunately for the KSA goalkeeper the ball fell to Kevin Patrick who bundled home from two yards to get RCF back into the contest.

RCF’s goal made it an even contest and KSA’s coach Suresh Mendon brought on forward Arihi Uchela to give the KSA attack a focal point. The Nigerian got into the game quickly and linked up the play well to get KSA back on the ascendancy. He had a few chances post the hour mark to restore KSA’s two goal cushion, but couldn’t convert any of them as the game remained in the balance.

Uchela was unlucky not to score in the 83rd minute when he hit the upright from a tight angle, but just a minute later he got his goal as he tapped home a pin point cross from the right side to kill the game as KSA went 3-1 up with six minutes to play.

Uchela turned provider four minutes later when he turned to release Patrick Mascerenhas on goal who kept his composure to coolly slot past the goalkeeper and give KSA an emphatic 4-1 win. It was a strong performance from KSA which could well help them turn the season for the good.
