K.C. College’s late show floors St. Gonsalo College

Kishinchand Chellaram (K.C) College, Churchgate netted two late goals to beat St. Gonsalo College 3-1 in the Mumbai University inter-collegiate football tournament game held at the University Pavilion on Tuesday, 8th September 2015.
K.C got off to a flier when Shubham Patel lodged them into the lead with a well taken goal in just the 2nd minute of the game and had St. Gonsalo on the back foot very early on in the game.
But St. Gonsalo weathered the early storm and steadily grew into the game, but had little to show for their progress in terms of attempts on goal. K.C College’s early vigour had vanished and it was a far more even contest as referee Ravi Pandey blew for half time.
St. Gonsalo were a changed outfit when they took the field in the second half and took the game to K.C College from the very first kick since the restart. St. Gonsalo were duly rewarded for their second half resurgence and equalised in the 50th minute through Blase Pinto.
The goal swung the momentum in St. Gonsalo’s favour and K.C College started feeling the heat a bit. But the south Mumbai outfit held firm and tamed the post goal momentum of St. Gonsalo.
The game became increasingly cagey as the full time whistle neared as neither team wanted to give anything away at such a late stage. But in the dying minutes of the game K.C. College found their touch and snatched the lead in the game in the 90th minute when Rakshit Pillai was at the right place at the right time to tap home an inch perfect pass from the midfield.
The goal deflated St. Gonsalo who stared at defeat despite having a good second half performance. As St. Gonsalo ventured forward in numbers, desperately in search of an equalizer, K.C. College exploited the gaps in their defence and sealed the game as Emaad Nadkar scored in the fifth minute of injury time and complete a 3-1 win.
K.C’s will and desire to go till the end got them over the line against a well-oiled opposition in St. Gonsalo and earned them three valuable points in the quest for glory.
