IFS League 2.0: Reunion end Champions’ unbeaten run; VNFC rout HDFC

The Indain Football School (IFS) League 2.0 experienced one of its most thrilling and dramatic matchdays as Alex Ambrose led Reunion ended Champions HDFC Tigers’ unbeaten run in the IFS League. A pulsating encounter between the two titanic teams ended 4-3 in favor of Reunion at Cooperage on Saturday, 25th July 2015.

The game was fairly even until the Champions HDFC Tigers went ahead thanks to Himkat who coolly finished a crisp passing move. HDFC’s veteran goalkeeper was having an inspired afternoon against Alex Ambrose and co. until a slight misfortune allowed Siddharth to level the scores after the Tiger’s goalkeeper’s tackle rebounded in off the the onrushing Siddharth.

There were chances at both ends but neither team could quite make them count. Eventually it took a breathtaking effort from Reunion’s Alex Ambrose who brilliantly turned after controlling a long pass to fire past the hapless Tigers keeper into the top corner.

It was a brilliant piece of forward play from Alex as he put his team into the lead. But the Champions responded almost instantly when Prabhjyot drilled a low left footed drive into the net to make it a half time score of 2-2.

The second half had similar intensity to that of the first and it was reunion who grabbed the lead through Himkat. But the Tigers came back strongly to wipe off the lead within minutes through a goal from Siddharth.

As it seemed that HDFC Tigers would preserve their long unbeaten run a misplaced pass from the Tigers’ midfielders gifted Alex Ambrose with a one on one chance which he put away with ease to give Reunion a 4-3 win and condemn a first ever defeat on the Tigers in the IFS League.

Earlier in the day, Reunion bashed Bullseye 11-4 to add to their big wins in the tournament. In the final two games of the day, VNFC crushed HDFC 10-1 after Steven N’cho netted six goals. It was a spectacular display from the forward who ripped into the HDFC defence.

The final game saw the two HDFC sides battle it out in the HDFC derby. A tight affair was edged by the Champions Tigers with Nigel netting the winner and heloing the Tigers get back on track.
