IC Extension win the Spikes & Grass Talents Cup 2015

After a day which saw some scintillating and breathtaking football, IC Extension were crowned the Champions of the Spikes & Grass Talents Cup 2015, a day long footballing Talent Hunt which took place at the Dribble Football Turf in Borivali on Saturday, 13th June 2015.

The day began with twenty four talented teams battling it out for the ultimate glory while attempting to catch the eye of the esteemed coaches present at the venue.

The twenty four teams were narrowed down to three teams, who then played out a mini-league amongst themselves for the ultimate prize.

IC Extension, IB United and Absconders were the three teams which made the cut after three difficult rounds of knock-out football. IC extension eventually had too much class for the IB United and Absconders as they got their hands on the coveted trophy.

IC Extension were at it from the very beginning when they knocked out heavy weights and MDFA 1st Division side Magic Bus in the very first round. The win gave them enough momentum to ease past further opponents and propel into the finals.
IB United who finished as the runners-up too looked strong form the outset and kicked off with a thumping win over OJ United before dispatching Shadows in the 2nd Round en-route to the Finals.

Absconders were the third side to make it to the Finals. They kicked off their campaign with a victory over Androids

The Final League stage saw three teams of real quality go head to head. IB United drew first blood in the League stage when a first half goal by Elroy was enough to sink the Absconders who missed several opportunities to level the scores.

After ruing the missed chances in the first game, they were completely outplayed in the second game when they were at the wrong end of a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of IC Extension where Elton, Digvijay and Desmond netted for IC Extension as Prabhjyot’s strike for Absconders proved to be a mere consolation.

In the final game, which turned out to be the decider, a late goal from Nachiket of the IC Extension gave them the title as IB United had to settle for a Runners-Up place.

But IB United’s Suraj Negi was awarded the Best Player of the Tournament, while Umesh Nair of IC Extension was the Best Goalkeeper.

The action packed day of football had the perfect finale and Spikes & Grass deserved the credit for organizing a top notch tournament where the young guns of Mumbai Football got a great platform to showcase their skills while being competitive.

The champions IC Extension had great ability on the ball and were a delight to watch all throughout the tournament. This just goes to show the hidden potential of Mumbai Football and Spikes & Grass have done their bit in helping the authorities harness the potential in some way.
