I want to be the top scorer in the 2nd Division League: Yao Kouassi Bernard

Kenkre FC begin their 2nd Division League campaign at home to LoneStar Kashmir FC as the Western Conference kicks off today.

The Mumbai based outfit will be looking for an improved showing from last season and will be looking to get through to the next round of the 2nd Division League from the Western Conference which has teams like Dempo, PIFA Sports, Minerva Academy and their opening day opponents LoneStar Kashmir.

Once again though Kenkre FC will be heavily relying on their star striker Yao Kouassi Bernard to produce the goods upfront and for Kenkre FC’s liking, their Ivorian hitman comes into the game against the Kashmir outfit in devastating mood after scoring four times in his last two games in the Mumbai Football League.

Speaking to Football Counter ahead of Kenkre FC’s big game against LoneStar Kashmir, Yao was in bullish mood about his own targets and spoke greatly about his team and new Head Coach Salim Pathan.

Yao Bernard scored two cracking goals in Kenkre’s win over KSA in the MFL, but the humble striker pit it down to the efforts of his teammates. “Yes they were good goals, but they were the team’s goals and not mine alone. We have a really good team which works for me and I am there to finish off their hard work.” spoke a grateful Yao Bernard as he relived his goals against KSA.

Kenkre FC have put faith in Salim Pathan as the team’s Head Coach for this season and Bernard spoke highly of his new gaffer as he revealed that Coach Pathan shared a good relationship with all the Players in the team. “We have a new coach this time and I feel he is really good. He always speaks to me, motivates me and is always talking to the team. I think it really helps having a coach like this who has so much knowledge to share. I’m happy to have him as a coach,” said the Ivory Coast striker as he heaped praise on his coach.

Speaking about a personal goal target, Yao Bernard didn’t hold anything back as he openly expressed his ambition of being the top scorer in the Division. “I want to be the top scorer in the league. That’s my target for this season. I believe in the team and we have some really good players and I am sure they will help me in achieving my target,” vowed the strongly built frontman as he prepared for the game at Cooperage.

The striker was also particularly pleased that Kenkre will be able to play at Cooperage this time around and felt at Cooperage would give his team an extra push as they bid to put in an improved showing. “We are looking forward to playing our home matches at Cooperage. We know the ground well and it is one of the better surfaces to play on. I think it will help us and our game.”
