Everything worked for us: Thangboi Singto

Shillong Lajong FC's head coach Thangboi Singto Shillong

Shillong Lajong send shockwaves round the I-League by bringing down one of the best home records in the league after hammering Mumbai FC 6-0 at Cooperage.

Shillong Lajong Head coach Thangboi Singto felt this was his side’s best performance this season and gave credit to his players who he felt did everything in their capacities. “I think this was our best performance so far. I am happy for my players who deserve all the credits for this result”.

Thangboi Singto was wary of the threat posed by Mumbai FC before the game but felt everything worked for his side. “To be very frank, I did not expect this result. I think everything that we planned today, clicked for us. We scored goals at a crucial time in the game and later scored them at regular intervals. Everything worked for us”.

The Manipuri coach felt his side executed all the plans perfectly and were rewarded for the discipline they showed especially while defending set pieces which was viewed as a concern for Shillong Lajong before the game.

“We knew they had tall players so we always had good numbers in the box, while defending set plays. The defensive unit, the midfield four worked really well and the wingers did brilliantly to run up and down the field”.

Shillong Lajong now travel to the Salt Lake Stadium to face leaders Mohun Bagan in the last of the three straight away games. Thanboi Singto has urged his side to keep their feet grounded and not get carried away by this massive success.

“We have a tough game coming up against Mohun Bagan and it’s not easy for us to travel. So we shouldn’t get too overboard with this result and continue to take every game seriously as every game from now is like a final for us”.

Shillong Lajong has many home games left up their sleeve but Thangboi Singto believes it’s only advantageous to his side provided they perform well. “We have many home games, but we need to perform in those games to get anything out of it. It is going to be tough as we will have many top teams at home and we need to play well. But we will only grow from here and hopefully end the season well”.

The win comes as a huge boost for Shillong Lajong as they prepare for a tough game agains red hot Mohun Bagan. But it is certain that Shillong Lajong will head to the Salt Lake stadium believing they could make it another successful evening.
