DSK Shivajians overcome a tough first half to thrash Kenkre FC in the U-19 I-League

DSK Shivajians U-19 overcame a stern resistance from Kenkre FC to eventually fire five past the hosts in a 5-0 win for the Maharashtra Qualifying zone leaders at Cooperage on 24th January 2015. The win sent DSK Shivajians at the top of the table.

Kenkre FC were knocked out of the competition with last evening’s result not going in their favor. They faced a DSK Shivajians side who had run riot in this competition so far, but their charge was halted recently as they came into this game on a back of a two game winless streak.

Kenkre FC who had previously held sides like Pune FC seemed determined to leave a mark on this competition as they started well against the much fancied DSK Shivajians side as they pressed them hard and thus disrupting their build up play.

But the visitors nearly caught the hosts napping as they played a quick floated free kick in the Kenkre box, but the danger was dealt by the Knkre FC goalkeeper in the 11th minute.

The game was panning out be an intense battle as both sides were trying to impose themselves on the game. DSK were finding it tough to break down Oscar Alva’s men until the 32nd minute when DSK’s Mascerenhas brilliantly picked out Chhangte Lalhriatpuia with long ball before the latter played a clever pass to pick out Lallianzuala Shotun’s run. But the striker’s shot lacked enough power.

Kenkre FC nearly had their moment three minutes later when Karan Dave’s free kick was fumbled by the visiting goalkeeper Subham Das who then recovered in time to prevent the hosts from taking the lead.

Kenkre FC nearly did so in the 38th minute when Atif Shaikh did brilliantly to deliver a dangerous cross in the box, which was partially cleared by the DSK defence. Kenkre FC midfielder picked up the pieces and his shot fell kindly to Yash Mhatre who turned only to see his shot blocked.

DSK’s best chance came in the 41st minute when Mawihmingthang beautifuuly threaded a pass to Lallianzuala Sohtun who forced a brilliant save out of the Kenkre FC goalkeeper. It was another brilliant move from the visitors but hosts Kenkre held firm as the referee blew for half time.

Kenkre FC not just matched their illustrious opponents but also gave them problems at the back.
Kenkre FC were working very hard to prevent DSK from getting their passing game going in the start of the second half. DSK Shivajians had upped the intensity in the second half, but Kenkre FC were coping.

DSK finally broke through in the 57th minute, after Rohit Kumar was in space in the Kenkre FC box and he coolly chipped the ball over the helpless Kenkre FC goalkeeper to put the visitors in front and break a nearly hour long resistance from Kenkre FC.

The goal gave DSK Shivajians the impetus to further increase their lead and they did so in the 70th minute through Mawihmingthang who was played in goal before he went around the goalkeeper to slot home in the empty net.

The second goal deflated Kenkre FC ans DSK Shivajians threatened to run riot. They missed two great chances as Rohit Kumar nearly got his second when he fired inches wide a minute before Mahiwmingthang couldn’t apply the finishing touches as he again went past the keeper but lost his balance at the very crucial point.
But he did not make any mistake in the 80th minute when he slotted home brilliantly after being played in on goal. DSK made it 4-0 just a minute later when Lallianzuala got in on the act after he showed great pace to get past the Kenkre defender and coolly finish past the Kenkre FC goalkeeper.

DSK Shivajians were a different animal in the second half as Kenkre FC could not live with them. Kenkre FC should have pulled one back in the last minute of the game when Faizan Thange failed to hit the target from close range.
DSK rounded off a brilliant evening with an absolute fabulous goal when Biaklian Paite struck from thirty yards giving the goalkeeper no chance.

The referee blew for full time as DSK Shivajians cemented their place at the top of the Maharashtra Qualifying zone table. Kenkre FC did well to match them in the first half but their quality eventually showed in the second half as they replicated Pune FC’s 5-0 success last evening.
