Don Bosco: A cut above the rest in Rustomjee’s Go Green Cup!

Don Bosco School Matunga

The Don Bosco contingent that took part in the recently concluded Rustomjee’s Go Green Cup hosted by Kenkre from the 23rd of February to the 4th of March was a lethal and menacing one! They came with an aim to etch their names and make their presence felt and very well accomplished the target!

Numerous teams:

The school entered with not less than three teams in all of the five age categories with each of them distinguished by a color added to their names, for instance there was Don Bosco BLUE, RED, WHITE, et cetera. This was just a beginning showcase of the football wonders that they possess in their students.

The Home Effect:

Since the entire tournament was being played out the Don Bosco Grounds, Matunga the teams felt more at home than anybody else. Having practiced at the same venue on normal eves, they knew the surroundings in and out and were more than comfortable, rather delighted to be playing there!

Discipline personified:

It was pleasantly astonishing to see the kind of manners and discipline that had been instilled in all the players of Bosco. Before every match, be it a final or just a standard fixture the team would gather in a huddle with their coach and recite a prayer loudly to give each other positive energy. Moreover, they would enter the field in a straight line with the first two players putting customary shots into the goals as a good luck ritual.

Undying support:

Don Bosco was a team that never really fell short of backing and motivation as there were innumerable excited parents always on their feet to cheer them from the side lines. Their traditional chant, “Bosco, bosco, bosco.. Don Bosco” reverberated in ones ears now and again as it simultaneously lifted the spirits and competitiveness of their players.

Coaches:

“A good coach will make his players see what they can be rather than what they are.” In case of Bosco, there was team of three coaches out of which two were former footballers of the Income Tax team. With ton loads of experience on their back; these leaders guided, scolded, cheered and shared their player’s joy in the best way that was there.

A fun fact: Bosco vs Bosco

There was a unique match in the Under-8 league where the Don Bosco A team played against the Don Bosco B team. The prayers prior to the match were said together while the same coach guided both the teams which was a rather rare sight. What was to be noticed though, was the fact that the all the rival players were good pals off the field but when it came to the match even these young guns were fierce competitors!

Don Bosco, the giants, concluded their campaign on a high note with various prizes to their name as well.. including:

  • 3rd Runners up: Don Bosco Red (Under-14)
  • Runners up: Don Bosco (Under- 12)
  • Champions: Don Bosco (Under- 10)
  • Most Valuable Player: Scott Rodrigues (Under- 10)
