Dominant Air India edge past west zone

On 19th November, 2015 Air India U-19 edged 1-0 past West Zone at St Xaviers Ground, Parel in their Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) Super Division clash.

Amey Bhatkal’s sublime finish on 41st minute was enough for the Super Division defending champions to earn all three points.

Air India started off brightly among both the teams. A well organized midfield of Air Indian was dominating throughout the whole match.

Although it took the defending champions 28 minutes to open the scoring. Amey Bhatkal, who was left unmarked on the edge of the box powerfully drove his shot into the right bottom corner to give Air India a deserving lead.

Amey Bhatkal could have doubled the lead on 41st minute. Amey brilliantly controlled a long ball inside the box but his left footed half volley failed to find the target.

Air India went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

In the second-half, Air India could have increased their lead to three or four goals, but a gritty defense from West Zone somehow managed to hold Air India.

Air India’s Sumesh Nair found Advait Nair with a fantastic through ball, but the latter’s right footed shot was just off the target

With five minutes left, Sumesh Nair could have put the tie to the bed but his left footed shot went just over the bar.

This was the final piece of action as Air India U-19 hold their nerves to get away with all three points.
