Day 9 round-up: Semifinals in the 3rd Edition of the Orlem Super Cup
The two semifinals in the 3rd edition of the Orlem Super Cup 2015-16 on the day was played between Holy Name (Colaba) vs. St. Vincent Palloti (Andheri) and St. Josephs (Mira Road) vs. Our Lady of Health (Versova). The final will be played today at the Orlem Church, Malad between Holy Name (Colaba) and St. Josephs (Mira Road). Before the final there is a 3rd place between St. Vincent Palloti (Andheri) and Our Lady of Health (Versova). The best player from both the games will be awarded the best player of the tournament trophy.
On, 21st November ’15, the first semifinal between the Name (Colaba) vs. St. Vincent Palloti (Andheri) was a thrilling game which saw the better of the two sides progress through into the final. The opening goal came from Colaba via Valentine on 8 minutes, after the equalizer was scored by St. Vincent Palloti minutes later. In the 12th minute and 19th minute of the second half Holy Name (Colaba) first lashed home the goal to take the lead and minutes before the full time whistle the Colaba side hit the final nail in the coffin by scoring the 3rd and most decisive goal in the last minute of play.
The second semifinal saw St. Josephs (Mira Road) – who were last year’s champions – defeat Our Lady of Health (Versova) the hard through a penalty shootout which they won 4-1. The match didn’t have much for the taking from the spectators’ point of view with both sides locked down at 1-1.St. Josephs took the lead just before the first half ended through a Suraj Negi header which was later cancelled out by a thunderous volley by Arbaz Kapadia.
As the match went into penalties, Mira Road scored all 4 of their penalties, but Our Lady of Health (Versova) could only manage to convert their 2nd penalty.
