Day 6 Rustomjee Go Green Cup: The football carnival comes to a cheerful end

After unexpected rains lashed the city on Saturday, the final day of Rustomjee’s Go Green Cup hosted by Kenkre was postponed to Tuesday here at the Don Bosco Grounds, Matunga. It was heartwarming to see that despite the rescheduling, the enthusiasm of the participants had not been reduced even by an inch as they looked to leave their mark on this day of reckoning.

Under- 17

The proceedings started with the Parasites taking the challenge to K- Blues. The first goal came on a penalty kick that was awarded to Parasites after a strong tackle just outside the box. Advait Shinde took it and placed it in perfectly into the right bottom corner to go into the lead before half time. In the second half, the equalizer came early from K- Blues as Marc scored taking advantage of a defensive lapse. With the score line level at 1-1, penalties were to decide the result. The thriller, came to an end with the K- Blues keeper missing the goal on the 7th kick to allow Parasites the win.

Under- 14

In this category, two finals were played, first for the Plate division and second the normal category that is the championship match.

In the Plate division final, Dadar FC A and Don Bosco Blue lit up the second half. Bosco managed the lead with a Mannan Dang strike but just before the final whistle Dadar FC pulled it back as Shubham Chippa found the back of the nets. Ultimately, though it was Don Bosco who won the match 3-2 on penalties.

For the Cup, it was Galaxy Boyz vs Bandra Stars. With the scores level at full time, penalties were to yet again decide the outcome. A nail biting series came to end with the Bandra Stars boys adjudged winners after a 5-4 scoreline.

  • 3rd Runners up: Don Bosco Red

Under- 12

The decisive encounter in this category was the Gladiators facing off against  Don Bosco. Gladiators scored early in the second minute as the rival defense was in a tizzy. Ten minutes later, Jaden Irani put in a superb strike for the second goal to end up with a comfortable 2-0 lead at half time. After the break, the Gladiators looked lethal as they constantly launched attacks on goal, while for Bosco, Harsh Palande’s great finish on the 21st minute was the only real moment of cheer. The match concluded in 2-1 in favour of the Gladiators.

Under- 10

Here, the Don Bosco boys proved to be just too strong for the Jaguars in their final fixture as they were handed a 3-0 defeat. Scott Rodrigues scored on the 4th minute from in front of the box, and Harsh Palande exhibited super skills when he turned on his back to put the ball into the bottom right corner. In the second half, Palande got another one to his name for a stunning finish into the goal that was absolutely pleasing to the eyes. With that, the Bosco boys comfortably clinched the Under-10 title.

  • 3rd Runners up: FFFA Blue

Under- 8

A couple of matches were scheduled for the final day for the Under- 8’s as they played out the tournament in the league format. The first match was Don Bosco B pitted against the Lions. Despite, star winger Agastya Bhat scoring one for Lions it was all too less as Don Bosco scored 6 in reply. Meet Munyal got a hat trick while Utkarsh, Ness and Nathan scored one goal each.

In the following match, Scottish Champs won 1-0 against Don Bosco A and the solitary goal was scored by Arnav Srivastava.
