Century Rayon- The Masters of the 2nd Division MDFA League 2014-15
Century Rayon clinch the 2nd Division MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) title of 2014-15 after beating Veniza Virar by a goal in the finals held at Xavier’s Ground ‘Parel’.
From the kickoff itself Century Rayon were the dominant side compared to the Dark horse of the 2nd Division league, Veniza Virar.
Veniza Virar produced as Lekraj Kotian displayed his skills.Apart from that Century held most of the ball possession and got a total of 11 shots at goal with most coming from Thotchan Vashum, Bishow thappa and Shopam Lungleg also contributing.
Veniza Virar’s defense showed skill in thwarting Century Rayon’s Repeated attacks. Goalkeeper, Mrugesh Kulkarni saved the grace for his team and collected each shot safely.
In the 53rd minute he couldn’t save Thotchan Vsshum’s shot and it cost Veniza Virar a goal. The following Minute Micheal Gabriel got substituted and the defence of Veniza Virar crumbled.
The pace of the game improved though and Century Rayon were all over the game again. Lekraj Kotian worked hard around the field but failed to score.
As the final whistle blew, Century Rayon proclaimed the champions of 2nd Division of 2014-15 and Best player of the league award deservedly went to Thotchan Vashum.
Veniza Virar were the Runners Up and had fought back really well before losing out to Century Rayon 1-0.
