Central Railways face G.M. Sports in opener as MDFA’s Elite Division is ready for kick-off

The Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) Elite Division League which is the city’s premier league competition will resume with a brand new season on 14th September 2015, when Central Railways will lock horns with Great Mother Sports Club at the iconic Cooperage stadium.

This season’s competition will involve fourteen teams which includes the city’s sole representative in the I-League, in shape of Mumbai FC. Mumbai FC were removed from the league mid-way through the season last season and there were question marks regarding their participation this year. But it seems Mumbai FC and MDFA have sorted their differences out as Mumbai FC are in the mix for the city’s biggest prize.

Mumbai FC will kick off their local campaign against Mumbai Customs on Wednesday, 23rd September 2015 in a tasty looking clash. Mumbai Customs were the surprise package from last season as their third placed finish wasn’t anticipated by many at the start of last season.

The opening schedule of matches has thrown up some really interesting games which includes champions Air India and runners-up ONGC, both of whom come up against Independence Cup winners Western Railways in the opening two weeks.

Kenkre FC who represent the city in the 2nd Division league have been handed a tough start to their campaign as they come up against ONGC and Mumbai FC in their opening two encounters.

The return of the MDFA Elite Division marks the true beginning of the football season in Mumbai and here is the list of fixtures from the opening fortnight-
