Catholics Gymkhana thrashed PIFA Colaba 6-2

MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) 1st Division match between PIFA Colaba and Catholics Gymkhana surprisingly proved to be a one sided affair where the latter blasted six goals past PIFA Colaba at St Xaviers Football Ground, held at Parel, Mumbai.

Brace from Alvin Fernandes and John Fernandes and goals apiece from Terrance Pereira, Elakson Mascarenhas was enough to complete the rout over PIFA Colaba.

Catholics right from the start showed glimpse of lethal attacking football, it just kept changing into reality as time passed on when the lads in yellow took a two goals lead before the half time.

Terrance Pereira and Elakson Mascarenhas scored just inside first fifteen minutes to keep the match in their favour.

The second half proved to be more dreadful for PIFA Colaba as they conceded more three goals and that too inside first twenty minutes of the second half.

John Fernandes scored from his left foot when his teammate Travis Rodrigues found him inside the edge of the box where John superbly finished his effort to make it 3-0. Just two minutes later John scored again, this time he buried his shot at left bottom corner to make it 4-0.

The outcome of the match was decided there itself.

Although PIFA Colaba scored two quick fire goals in second half, the match was beyond their reach.

Moments later Alvin Fernandes scored a brilliant lob goal over the PIFA Colaba’s goalkeeper to make it five for Catholics Gymkhana.

Even though after scoring five, Catholics seemed to be more hunger to score than PIFA Colaba, Elakson Mascarenhas shot hit the post only to find his way to Elakson’s own teammate, Alvin Fernandes who poked his effort to make it 6-2.

All in all it was a fantastic display from Catholics Gymkhana, not every team in MDFA plays such lethal attacking football, that too against PIFA Colaba.
