Clinical Bombay Gymkhana see off FC Mithagar

Bombay Gymkhana recorded a comfortable 3-1 win against FC Mithagar in a Second Division match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League – 2014-15, played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel on Thursday evening.
Strikers Amir Sohal Bawa, Vihan Chadda and Rohan Poojara netted a goal each for the Gymkhana side, while Kunal Ghosh Roy pulled one back for the losing outfit.
The game got off to a flier when Bombay Gymkhana struck the opening goal in the very first minute of the game when Vihaan Chadda skipped past the challenege of FC Mithagar center back to put Bombay Gymkhana into an early lead.
Six minutes later, Bombay Gymkhana were able to double their advantage through Amit Sohel Bawa as he capitalized on an error from FC Mithagar’s Adwait Jadhav whose poor clearance allowed Sohel to pounce and put his side 2-0 up.
FC Mithagar though came right back into the contest with in the 12th minute when a fine volley from Kunal Ghosh found its way into the top corner.
The game was brilliantly set-up after an explosive start as Bombay Gymkhana enjoyed the lead but FC Mithagar had the momentum in the game.
Bombay Gymkhana’s Amit Sohel though was denied twice by the Mithagar goalkeepr just before half time as he threatened to restore Bombay Gymkhana’s two goal cushion.
FC Mithagar came out all guns blazing in the second half but failed to make the most of the opportunities that came their way. In the 40th minute, goalscorer Kunal Roy was sent clear in front of goal by Mayuresh Sawant but Bombay Gymkhana’s Rohit Prakash did brilliantly to stop him in his tracks and clear the danger.
Five minutes later, Rohan Poojara was unfortunate not to have put the game to bed when his thunderous effort rebounded off the post. The rebound fell to Amit Sohel who could only blaze over the crossbar.
But Rohan Poojara got another chance to get on the scoresheet through the penalty spot after FC Mithagar’s Susheil Kadam’s foul earned Bombay Gymkhana a penalty. Rohan Poojara stepped up and kept his cool to give his side a 3-1 lead with fifteen minutes left to play.
FC Mithagar were left with a mountain to climb as their second half resurgence went in vain after they lost out to a more clinical Bombay Gymkhana side who took the chances that came their way.
