AVM Juhu win Girls U-14 First Division title
Smt. R.S.B. Arya Vidya Mandir, Juhu emerged victorious in the U-14 Girls First Division as they beat The Cathedral and John Connon 2-1 in the Final played at the Azad Maidan Ground on Friday afternoon. AVM were dominant for most parts of the match and goals from Gaurika Shetty and Khushi Khan lifted the Juhu girls to victory over their opponents from Fort.
It was a rare final for AVM unlike their opponents The Cathedral and John Connon who have been regulars in the Final in different categories, but there was sign of that on the pitch as AVM seized the control of the game straight away and put C & JC under pressure.
C & JC broke well on couple of occasions in the first half, but the AVM defence was very well organized and was able to break the C & JC attacks. AVM’s strong possession bore fruit after Gaurika Shetty scored for AVM and put them in front in the first half. AVM then defended that lead well till half time.
The second half was no different to the second half as AVM’s stern rearguard gave no joy to the C & JC forwards and midway through the second half, AVM took a huge step towards claiming the U-14 First Division crown when Khushi Shetty fired a fine low shot into the goal to put AVM 2-0 up.
However there was to be late drama as The Cathedral and John Connon were offered a way back into the contest when they won a late penalty which was converted by Saiya Mehta to give his team hope again. But that goal proved too little too late for C & JC as AVM Juhu celebreated post the full time whistle. AVM were deserved winners after a solid performance in the FInal against a battling Cathedral and John Connon side.
Earlier in the day, Bombay Scottish, Mahim cruised to a 6-1 win over Manry Immaculate Girls HS to claim the third place. Aishwarya Ahir was the star of the show as she scored a fine hat-trick and was a constant menace for the Mary Immaculate defence. Deniese Pereira scored a brilliant brace as Ira Gore also got on the score sheet as Bombay Scottish were comfortable winners.
