Atletico de Kolkata’s Baljit Sahni banned for two games, fined Rs. 5 lacs

Atletico de Kolkata’s Baljit Sahni has been banned for two matches and fined Rs. 5 lacs for breaching the All India Football Federation’s Disciplinary code of Offensive Behaviour and Fair Play in Atletico de Kolkata’s game against FC Goa played at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa yesterday.

Baljit Sahni saw red after he headbutted FC Goa’ Gergory Arnolin in the face and that has prompted the AIFF to take an harsh action on Sahni.

The ten men of Atletico de Kolkata came away with a point from the game despite taking the lead through Arata Izumi before being reduced to ten men after Sahni’s red. But FC Goa piled on the pressure and got their equalizer ten minutes from time as the champions had to be content with the draw.

Sahni’s absence will be a concern for Atletico de Kolkata boss Antonio Habas who is already without their Indian contingent which is away on International duty.

Apart from Sahni’s obvious stupidity, Gregory Arnolin’s reaction to what was a tame headbutt drew plenty of criticism, but Frenchman has escaped without any ban. Gregory’s theatrical fall was much instrumental in Sahni’s quick dismissal, but that has escaped from the watchful eyes of the AIFF.
