Ace FC ease past Millennium FC in MDFA 3rd Division Qualifiers

Ace Football Club registered a fairly comfortable 2-0 win in the first round of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) 3rd Division Qualifier held at the St. Xavier’s Ground in Parel on Monday, 13th July 2015.

After both teams took a while to get going, Ace FC were almost gifted an opportunity in the 9th minute, when Millennium FC goalkeeper made a mess of a corner kick when he failed to collect it. There were huge appeals for a penalty as the shot from the resultant loose ball seemed to have hit a Millenium FC defender’s hand.

The referee turned down the appeals much to the disappointment of the Ace FC players and especially the bench who were convinced it was a penalty.

But three minutes later, Ace FC did take the lead when a beautifully threaded pass was met by the clever run of Akshay Khetle who rounded off the goalkeeper to slot in from close range.

The goal gave the men from Mulund a real lift as they began to dominate proceedings. The Millennium FC defence did well to trap the Ace FC strikers in an offside position on a couple of occasions before the referee blew for half time.

The second half was more of an even contest with Ace FC seeming content to hold the lead and controlled most of the game without posing too many threats to the opposition goal, early on in the second half.

Ace FC eventually put bthe result beyond Millennium FC in the 45th minute when Neeraj Pawaskar’s long range effort sailed into the top corner. It was an amazing strike which flew past the goalkeeper, giving him no chance whatsoever.

The second goal seemed to have knocked the stuffing out of Millennium FC as they showed little signs of recovery before the referee blew the full time whistle.

Ace FC were deserving winners after having completely bossed the proceedings during the game.
