Kenkre FC holds 10-man Century Rayon

4th December 2017, Mumbai: In the MDFA – Mumbai District Football Association Elite Division clash, struggling side Kenkre FC faced Century Rayon in an intense encounter at Mumbai Football Arena, Andheri on Monday evening.

After going down 2-1 in the first-half through Zingshapam Lungling’s brace, Kamran Siddiqui’s strike in the 73rd minute helped Kenkre FC to snatch a 2-2 draw against a dominant 10-man Century Rayon. With this result, Kenkre FC has grabbed their first point of the season after losing their previous three matches while Century Rayon has moved one place up to fourth with six points in five matches.

Kenkre FC came into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Mumbai Customs. Although Kenkre were the better side for the majority of the match, failing to convert the penalty proved costly as Ashrafali Makandar scored the winning goal for Customs. On the other end, Rayon scored an injury-time goal through Akash Jain to snatch a point against Central Bank of India (CBI).

The newly-promoted Century Rayon side had a good start but it was Kenkre’s talismanic striker Yash Mhatre who opened the scoring in the 7th minute against the run of play. Century Rayon hit back four minutes later when in the 11th minute Zingshapam Lungling levelled the score with a sublime strike past Kenkre’s goalkeeper Adil Sameja who couldn’t manage to parry Lungling’s attempt.

Nine minutes later in the 22nd minute, Lungling scored again to put Rayon’s noses in front with a terrific strike which caught Kenke’s defense napping. But Rayon suffered a set back when Sunil Mane was shown his second yellow card for a mistimed challenge as Referee Louis Fernandes gave him the marching orders.

Despite playing with 10-man, Rayon was the better side for the rest of the match. It took substitute Kamran Siddiqui to level the terms in the 73rd minute to rescue a point for the men in yellow at the Mumbai Football Arena.
