Top 5 reasons behind the success of KCL and The ‘Go Green’ cup

Rustomjee’s The ‘Go Green Cup’ hosted by Kenkre held at the Don Bosco Grounds, Matunga, was a huge hit for all the kids and their parents/ coaches alike. This can rightly be attributed to the following dedicated, passionate individuals who worked hard enough to ensure that the football carnival went about smoothly without any hiccups! The Real Men Of Steel were:

  1. Joshua Lewis

CEO of the Kenkre Football Club, this calm man was the main force behind organizing the tournament on a massive scale which saw more than 600 kids in participation. He was present on field, day in and day out and micro managed the entire event on a personal level. His humility was evident when despite being busy he made himself available to answer the minutest of parental queries as well as indulge in a light conversation with the young kids as and when he found a bit of time.

  1. Sagar Kamble, Vikram Nanivedkar, Akhil Kothari and Vinayata Patel (physio)

They were the people actually running around from one end to the other to handle the proceedings. From ensuring that the matches scheduled were happening on time, informing the teams, handling first aid in case of injuries right up to playing the roles of coaches for some particular teams…they WERE THERE!

  1. Field coordinators: Faizan Thange, Shaun Fernandes and Kapil Shrimali and Manoj

These young professional footballers were the directors on the grounds. Marking the attendance of the players on the team sheets, handing them out their prestigious Adidas bibs and keeping a tally of the score: they called the shots and with perfection! It was a commendable endeavour on their part as all three are not only college students but Faizan, Shaun and Manoj also play for Kenkre FC in the Elite Division while Kapil plays in the First Division.

  1. Referee’s: The men in uniform

A strong contingent of about 10 referee’s was there to preside over this sporting event throughout the course of 6 days. With a minimum of 6 working at all times, they ensured that game was played in all fairness and spirit as they enforced the Laws of football! They adapted very well as many of them went beyond their role and dealt with the young kids in an endearing manner, explaining (rather than warning) them the nuances of the game while playing.

  1. The parents of all the wonderful kids

The ‘Go Green’ Cup 2016 reached new heights in terms of success. The participation level of the kids increased from the previous year. The matches were played with high intensity. And backing their kids to do well were the parents of those lovely kids. Running around the ground with the kids, they cheered from the sidelines, yelled at their kids, barked orders and clapped everytime a goal was scored. In football they could be termed as the 12th man. Hats off to all the lovely parents who encouraged their kids to participate in the event!!
