Spencer’s hat-trick for Sea View sinks a helpless Naval Dockyard side.

Sea View ran riot with a score line of 8-1 against a helpless Naval Dockyard side in the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) First Division match on Saturday afternoon held at St Xavier’s ground, Parel.

This was an all one-sided game with Sea View dominating from the kick-off scoring some spectacular goals. The first goal came in the 22nd minute when Sea View number 15 Spencer Johnson shot from from 25 yards out only for the Dockyard keeper who could not sort his feet out making it 1-0.

Sea View quick to add to their tally when number 11 Varun PV made a sensational run down the left curling a beauty past the keeper making it 2-0 in the 27th minute. Number 27 Pratik was quick to make it 3-0 in the 28th minute, a nightmare for the Dockyard keeper. He was eventually substituted for number 1 MT Sankati. He was brave enough to pull out a few saves but was eventually sent off when he handled the ball in trying to save a goal scoring opportunity rushing outside the box.

The match seemed well and truly over at half time as Sea View were playing for fun in the second half to add to their tally of three goals with the goal difference in mind. Naval Dockyard number 7 R. Ramesh scored the only goal in the 68th minute which was their only consolation.

But that seemed to have only come back to bite them as  Sea View started a goal fest of their scoring four in the next 10 minutes. Number 37 Agnelo Fernandes scored a quick brace in the 71st minute with some shambolic defending at the back whereas Spencer Johnson completed his hat trick in the 78th minute with well directed shouldered goal into the left corner. Number 8 Shrikant V the former Air India man was the heart of the midfield supplying a string of goals whereas number 11 Varun PV proved a menace down the left making some breath taking runs also assisting a few goals.

Naval Dockyard’s poor performance was down to their first keeper making errors allowing Sea View a 3-0 lead at halftime. Adding to that lack of pressing, clearances and some very poor defending.

Sea View can take pride from this all round performance where there were lot of goals, some neat and tidy football supported by an astute defense who just let one goal in. There could have been more goals as Johnson hit the crossbar on a few occasions and some were fired over the top from his team mates.
