Nashik clinch thriller; Pune fire ten past Gondia to make semi-finals

Pune and Nashik sealed their passage through to the semi-finals of the Maharashtra Inter District Football Championship for Sub-Junior Boys held in Nashik on Monday afternoon. Pune hammered Gondia 10-0 while Nashik came from 2-0 down to earn a 3-2 shootout success.

Pune never really had any kinds of problems in their quarter final encounter against a Gondia side who seemed to have run out of fuel after a long tournament prior to this game. A brace from Ysnay Rondamori and Rohit Mangle and a goal apiece from Ishwar Rachal, Pranav Rale saw Pune take a half time lead of 6-0 over Gondia. In the second half, Sahil Gaikwad added to Pune’s tally before Pranav Rale and Ishwar Rachal completed their braces. Ysnay Rondamori finally bagged his hat-trick making it 10-0 to Pune when the full time whistle was blown.

The final Quarter Final of the day was a topsy-turvy encounter where Nashik emerged victorious in the most dramatic fashion. After being 2-0 down to Akola in the second half, hosts Nashik staged a fine comeback to take the game to penalties. In the shootout, Akola missed their first two kicks but Nashik followed suit to leave the game level pegging with the last set of kicks. Nashik profited from Akola’s miss to book a semi-final win after a 3-2 win in the shootout.

The semi-finals will be played on Tuesday morning. Here is the semi-final line-up

  1. Mumbai vs Nagpur
  2. Nashik vs Pune
